Stanley Kubrick followed up his groundbreaking 2001: A Space Odyssey with an utterly different and chilling look at mankind’s future, adapting Anthony Burgess’s novel for this Best Picture nominee about a charismatic young sociopath (Malcolm McDowell) who undergoes an experimental treatment for his condition. Controversial at the time of its release and still one of the director’s bleakest films, its vision of the 21st century is dark and thrilling at the same time.
