Sleeping Beauty

Walt Disney’s long-in-development adapta- tion of the Charles Perrault fairy tale was the first animated film to be shot in widescreen Super Technirama 70, with a lush visual style which evoked both art deco and medieval imagery. The film featured one of the studio’s most iconic villains, the evil fairy Maleficent, with Eleanor Audley serving as the character’s live-action model as well as providing her voice. George Bruns was nominated for his Tchaikovsky-based score.

The first Pixar film to receive a Best Picture nomination, Up won Oscars for Animated Feature Film and Michael Giacchino’s heartwarming score.
