Set near the water in Santa Monica and Venice Beach, Night Tide dives into the purgatory domain of dreamy love, which is cursed by doomed imagination, like a beautiful nightmare underwater. The Coen Brothers’s follow-up to their smash hit Fargo (1996) did not have great commercial or critical success in its initial release but went on to develop a devoted following, even spawning an annual festival in honor of the film.
