Based on the real-life figure Crystal Lee Sutton, Norma Rae stars Sally Field as a union organizer who is galvanized to create a better life for her family. Struggling financially and romantically, Norma leads her factory to unionization in a film that still resonates with its message of the power found in collective bargaining. Field won Best Actress for playing the cotton mill worker who fought back during one of the United States’ bleakest periods for labor rights.

A three-time Oscar-winner, editor Thelma Schoonmaker is a longtime collaborator of Martin Scorsese. In The Age of Innocence , Scorsese and Schoonmaker offer a sweeping, sumptuous adaptation of Edith Wharton’s tragic novel that explores class, lust, and love in 1870s New York. Mild-mannered lawyer Newland Archer (Daniel Day-Lewis) becomes embroiled in a love triangle with the young and distinguished May Welland (Winona Ryder) and her newly separated cousin Ellen Olenska (Michelle Pfeiffer). Released after the one-two punch of Goodfellas and Cape Fear , The Age of Innocence is an electric portrait of obsession.
DIRECTOR: Martin Scorsese.
CAST: Daniel Day-Lewis, Michelle Pfeiffer, Winona Ryder, Geraldine Chaplin. 1993. 139 min. USA. Color. Scope. English. 35mm. New print courtesy of the Academy Film Archive.
