Samuel L. Jackson EVE'S BAYOU, 1997
To highlight the work of the 2022 Governors Awards honorees— Danny Glover (Jean Hersholt Humanitarian Award), Samuel L. Jackson (Honorary Oscar), Elaine May (Honorary Oscar), and Liv Ullmann (Honorary Oscar)—the Academy Museum is pleased to screen select films that showcase these artists’ talents and their contributions to the art of cinema. The Honorary Award, an Oscar statuette, is given “to honor extraordinary distinction in lifetime achievement, exceptional contributions to the state of motion picture arts and sciences, or for outstanding service to the Academy.” The Academy has been giving honorary and special awards since the first year of the Oscars. The Hersholt, first awarded in 1956, is given “to an individual in the motion picture arts and sciences whose humanitarian efforts have brought credit to the industry.” Glover is receiving his Hersholt for his decades-long advocacy of human rights, including his service as a UNICEF Goodwill Ambassador.
