Three American servicemen (Fredric March, Dana Andrews, Harold Russell) return to their hometown and struggle with the challenges of post-war life in this epic drama from writer Robert E. Sherwood and director William Wyler, which was the biggest box-office hit of its year as well as a Best Picture winner. New- comer Russell won a Supporting Actor Oscar and received a Special Award “for bringing hope and courage to his fellow veterans.”

It’s a Wonderful Life

This tale of an ordinary man who, frustrated by his inability to escape his small-town life and pursue his dreams, gets a rare chance to see the impact he has made on those around him was a box-office disappointment in its original release (despite five Oscar nomina- tions including Best Picture and Directing), but has since become one of the most beloved Hollywood films of all time.
